Lithium-Ion Battery Patents – Understanding Infringement and Invalidity Through Recent Notable Litigation
This presentation will discuss recent notable decisions in U.S. litigation of lithium-ion patents, and what those cases can teach us about infringement and invalidity issues in lithium-ion patents. The presentation will focus on the role played by weight/volume claim terms, the duty of disclosure and invention disclosure statements during prosecution, the importance of quantitative examples in lithium-ion patent specifications, and properly presenting prophetic and working examples.
This webinar will focus on the following key topics:
• Recent notable decisions in U.S. district court and U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (IPRs) litigation of lithium-ion patents
• The infringement and invalidity of lithium-ion patent claims:
– The critical role of weight/volume (quantitative) claim terms
– How invention disclosure statements (IDS) can affect validity
– The importance of examples in a lithium-ion patent specification
– Properly presenting prophetic examples (predicted experimental results) as opposed to working examples (actual experimental results) in a lithium-ion patentPresenter

How to Safely Select DC Fuses for EES Systems
Proper selection of direct current (DC) overcurrent fuses is not as simple as it may seem, and several factors need to be looked at for proper selection. Design engineers need to look at many different things such as what we’re protecting, system voltage changes, circuit fault currents, minimum breaking currents, mechanical requirements, temperature deratings, system operation regarding cycling, etc. All of these and other factors need to be taken into consideration to safely select the proper DC fuse for each unique application. This presentation will take you through the basics of DC and AC fuses, DC circuit protection methods, and review EES fuse selection along with a case study. With the rapid growth of Electrical Energy Storage systems being implemented and deployed, we see an opportunity to educate everyone on this topic.
This webinar will focus on the following key topics:
• Fuseology
• Fuse Selection Practices
• DC Circuit Protection
• EES Fuse Selection Methodology
• Case StudyPresenter

The Role of All-Solid-State Batteries for Grid Energy Storage
All solid-state batteries (ASSBs) are widely believed to be a promising technology for next-generation energy storage. While Li-ASSBs are slated to serve the electric vehicles market, Na-ASSBs are a promising technology for electrical grid storage due to their lowered costs and longevity. Prevailing obstacles to commercialization include poor cathode interfacial stability, and the lack of a robust sodium anode, in addition to low areal capacities. In this webinar, we will discuss design strategies to enable stable interfaces, as well as utilize sodium alloy-based anodes to enable ASSBs with higher energy densities, longer cycle life, and longer calendar life.
This webinar will focus on the following key topics:
• State-of-the-art Na solid-state batteries and their role for grid energy storage applications
• Low cost, novel solid electrolytes enabling long cycle life via interface stabilization
• Na alloy-based anodes eliminating dendrite formation and enabling wide temperature operation
• Processing considerations to achieve high areal capacities for high energy densitiesPresenters

Effects of Partial Nail Penetration on Li-ion Pouch Cell Operation
While many technological advancements have recently been made to ensure Li-ion batteries operate safely during normal cycling, many hazards exist when it comes to operation in abusive environments. Physical damage to batteries can lead to decreased performance and increased operating temperatures. This often causes thermal runaway, which in severe cases can lead to combustion and possibly explosion. In order to design cells in a way that mitigates these dangerous outcomes, it is important to understand what happens when a battery experiences physical abuse and continues to operate. This work focuses on the operational effects and indications for cells that operate in abusive environments where physical damage can be a concern.
This webinar will focus on the following key topics:
• Dynamic impact testing on Li-ion pouch cells
• Operational indications of cell damage
• Quantifying accelerated capacity fade due to physical damage
• Effect of increased operating temperature on coulombic efficiency
• Incremental capacity analysis for investigation into aging mechanismsPresenter
